Other Visions In Paint
This painting is from a series of paintings of my mother, Geraldine Clark Hickerson. She was intelligent and talented. She embraced the standard of a woman’s place was in the home that was the norm of her era. Before she wed my father, Mom was a star of the song, piano, and dance.
The goldencheek warbler is an endangered species world wide. There is a population of them surviving in central Texas. They are brave and beautiful with a brilliant song.
Painting is my self-indulgent pursuit, my curiosity reaching. It has led me around the world. I cannot not-paint. I am doomed and lucky as royalty are doomed and lucky.
